SCOTTSDALE RESORT NEWS

The Arizona Republic called The Lamar "the resort-style spa that keeps the locals coming back" but the resorts nearby send us guests as well. The Lamar is the preferred spa for hotels like The Doubletree and Renaissance, which do not have spas and helps those that do, like Camelback Inn and The Phoenician when their facilities are full or have guests who don't want to pay resort spa prices.  The robust growth of our resort partners is an integral part of our business too and the following news bodes well for the future of The Lamar:

The JAMES Hotel has been dubbed Mondrian by Morgans Hotel Group Co. following their $47.8 million acquisition of the 194-room hotel. A $5 million renovation is on the drawing board for the property. In addition, the 218-room Fairfield Inn located just north of Chaparral Road was purchased by Scottsdale Venetian Village, LLC. The purchaser plans to invest more than $3 million to convert the property into the Hotel Scottsdale, a mid-range boutique hotel property. Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. announced that it will acquire The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. The purchase price is approximately $393 million. Starwood will continue to operate the hotel under a 20-year contract. Lastly, the 126-room Hampton Inn Scottsdale Old Town is being converted into Hotel Indigo. The property was purchased for $12.5 million from Equity Inns Partnership LP in an off-market transaction. The five-story hotel will fly the region's first Hotel Indigo flag, under the Intercontinental Hotel Group. (Scottsdale Update – Development Focus, May 22)

The June issue of Health Magazine featured The Lamar in a segment titled Spa treatments for the brokenhearted "Forget drowning your relationship sorrows in a pint of Chunky Monkey. Head to a spa that wants to pamper your blues away. The "I Will Survive" package ($375) from The Lamar Everyday Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona, includes a 70-minute yoga class and four treatments: hot-stone massage, scalp treatment, facial and algae wrap to remove toxins like poisoned relationships." The article also mentioned the multi-location Bliss Spa and the aptly named Spa at Split Rock in Wilton, Connecticut.

Recently we received a call from a shopper inquiring about our Massage a Month program, which they said they saw in USA Weekend. We had plenty of information about the program, which is $130 per month including unlimited spa access and a 10% discount on services and retail Mon-Thursday but her call was the first time we heard about the story!

The Yoga Journey Retreat received an overwhelming response, after it's appearance in the May issue of Spirituality and Health Magazine. The two-day package, which was designed as a team building alternative, included yoga sessions, day hikes and spa treatments. Prices vary depending on group size.
